Camping Program
The goal of the diocesan camping program is to help individuals of all ages deepen their sense of reverence and respect for themselves, their fellow human beings, the creation, and God. It also seeks to make each diocesan camp a "peaceful place apart" for nurturing, planning, reflection, exchange of ideas and a special sense of community. Inquiries about the diocesan camping program may be referred directly to the contacts listed below.
Camp Stevens
Camp Stevens is nestled in 256 acres of pine-oak woodland at 4200 feet near the historic town of Julian. The harmony of its natural setting provides "a peaceful place apart" from urban life.
Camp Stevens offers 1-week sessions for boys and girls ages 8-16 during July and August as well as additional programs for adults and families throughout the year. Programs take place at Camp Stevens, in wilderness settings such as the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Baja California, and occasionally in Ecuador.
The year-round conference center accommodates groups of 10-120 in comfortable dorms that sleep 6 to 12 people and have modern restrooms. Meeting rooms are bright and cozy, most have fireplaces. Delicious meals are skillfully prepared and served family-style.
Recreational facilities include a swimming pool (in season), volleyball, basketball, hiking trails and campfire areas. Camp staff are available to assist with hikes, games, campfires, folk dancing and other program activities upon request. Ropes course programs and the climbing wall are available for an additional fee.
A shared institution of both the Diocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of San Diego, Camp Stevens is located on highway 78, 2 miles east of Julian in the mountains of San Diego County. Check the Camp Stevens webpage for details at www.campstevens.org.
