Education for Ministry (EFM)
EFM is an adult formation class, offered in a series of 34 seminar sessions intended for the education of the laity in our church. Bishop Bruno has named EFM as one of the three benchmark programs for Adult Christian Education and Formation in the Diocese of Los Angeles. EfM is administered by the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. For information about the program, click here.
EFM is offered in four one-year segments, traditionally offered once a week for 34 weeks, under the guiding hand of an accredited mentor. Class size is limited to no more than 12 students, no less than six and the cost of this sponsored program is $340 per year.
The heart of the program is a method of theological reflection that "breaks open" scripture by using a four-source model of Action, Tradition, Culture and Position. The class also features lessons in the Old Testament, the New Testament, Church History, Theology and Ethics. It is a class that equips people for the ministry of the church and involves a real commitment to the work, and to the ministry Christ has called each of us to in the church.
