The Program Group on Hispanic Ministries
The program group on Hispanic Ministries provides opportunities for continued education and empowerment of Latinos to become more visible and serve in Church leadership capacities. Hispanic ministry first began in the Diocese of Los Angeles with outreach to immigrants during the 1940s. At the time, Holy Family Church in North Hollywood became the first Hispanic congregation. In 1983, under Bishop Robert Rusack, the first five-year plan for Hispanic Ministry development was implemented. Since then, several additional Hispanic congregations have formed, and the Diocese has developed a center for lay leadership training (Casa Rusack), and it continues developing many other programs and opportunities.
